Fundraising at Colchester Utd for NSPCC

Our very own John Appleby, partner of Leonard Gray, took part, during a gorgeous, sunny afternoon on Saturday, 8 March 2014, in a fundraising drive for the NSPCC/ChildLine. John, a member of the Chelmsford NSPCC Business Group, along with five other volunteers, collected money at Colchester Utd Football Club, before and after The U’s clash with Coventry City. A total of £386 was raised.

A keen supporter of the NSPCC, John was very pleased with the generosity of both the home and away fans on the day of the match: “To see both sets of fans willingly donating to such a fantastic cause is heart-warming and just goes to show that there are plenty of people out there who care enough about the safety and wellbeing of our children, far too many of whom, sadly, are subject to intolerable violence and cruelty.”

A successful afternoon was capped by a brave and stoic performance from the U’s, who overcame their opponents from the Midlands 2-1, in a keenly fought contest.

The NSPCC helps end cruelty to children in the UK in a range of different ways. Its work is focused on helping those children who are in greatest danger and distress. All its services are designed to make the biggest difference to children possible.

ChildLine is the UK’s free, confidential helpline for children and young people. Trained volunteers provide advice and support, by phone and online, 24 hours a day.
